series "Legacy and Promise" we honor local African-Americans who have written their
own chapter in Black History.
The Honorable Carl Stewart grew up in Shreveport. His parents emphasized the values of hard work, kindness and commitment. Those values have carried him from his hometown to the national stage.
In October 2012, Mr. Stewart was named Chief Judge of the Federal Court of Appeals - Fifth Circuit, becoming the the first African-American to hold the position.
