Employees with the City of Shreveport are celebrating Valentine's by getting physically fit.

This week the city is launching a year-round Get Fit Program to help its staff and their families stay healthy.

The first activity, the Love Yourself Valentine's Day walk, kicks off at 11 a.m. at the Shreveport Police Department on 1234 Texas Ave. Employees will walk to Government Plaza and back, a total of two miles.

The overall objective is get employees to commit to a healthy lifestyle and engage in activities such as walking, cycling and yoga.

City officials say the wellness program will contribute to a healthier workforce which could potentially reduce the cost of employee benefits.
