Two suspects charged in shooting death of Chicago teen

By: Nikki Henderson
Updated: February 12, 2013

Two men have been arrested in connection with killing a teenager who performed at President Barack Obama's second inauguration.

Michael Ward, 18, and Kenneth Williams, 20, each face one count of first-degree murder for the death of Hadiya Pendleton.

Pendleton, 15, was shot two weeks ago in a park near her school, just days after returning from Washington, D.C.

The two suspects also face attempted first degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm for the attack that left two other teens wounded.

Ward told police that Hadiya was not the intended target. The shooting was allegedly meant to be a retaliation for Williams, who was shot last year.

Cleopatra Cowley, Hadiya's mother, said she was "ecstatic" about the arrests and urged for the young men to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
