The road to integration in Webster Parish

The lawsuit that officially integrated schools in Webster Parish dates back nearly 50 years.  It was September 1965 when Blaine Gilbert became one of the first black students to attend Stewart Elementary School.

Blaine's father, Verdis, filed the suit and is the last surviving plaintiff.  At the time his son was forced to attend a school a mile away, While Stewart Elementary was right in his neighborhood.

At ten we'll take a look at the road to fully integrate schools in Webster Parish.
