Riding on Air

By: Import User
Updated: February 22, 2007
The cold temperatures today didnt stop the Caddo Parish Sheriffs office from making a splash in the water. By land and by water, the Hovertrek made its debut on the red river. The amphibious vehicle glides above the earths surface on slightly pressurized air and has an average speed of 35 miles per hour. In the past rescue missions could take hours because of the terrain, but that is going to be a thing of the past. The Hovertrek isnt the only new search and rescue equipment acquired by the Caddo Sheriff’s office. A new 25-foot Boston Whaler is fully equipped with an unsinkable hull and a side dive door. The Hovertrek cost around 31-thousand dollars, while the price tag of the Boston whaler was 57-thousand. Both were paid for with a Homeland Security grant from the Department of Justice.
