Mardi Gras Comes to Texarkana

By: Jade Cunningham
Updated: February 6, 2013
It's a big weekend for Front Street Texarkana, because the Arkansas side is hosting its first-ever Mardi Gras celebration.

People will be coming from all over to enjoy good food, music and contests.

The festivities will start Saturday at 2:30pm with the Krewe of Paws and Little Rascals Parade.

Then at 4:00pm, the Parade of Koinonia will begin. About 80 floats will roll through the downtown area starting on Front Street and finishing on Hazel.

Event Coordinator, Charlotte Hartwell, says to expect great things.

"Koinonia is Greek for unity and we're trying to unify our state line on both sides. We need to create one happy community, which of course would give us why Texarkana is twice as nice!"

If you enjoy catching the beads, there's only one place along the route where it's allowed.

The "Throw Bead Zone" is the four blocks along Front Street. For all other places beads will be handed to the spectators.
