According to Corporal Marcus Hines with the Shreveport Police Department, the crash was a result of two cars drag racing in the 600 block of Greenwood Road around 5:00 p.m.
Hines says when officers arrival at the scene, contact was made with the driver of a blue four door Chevrolet Caprice which collided with a two toned Chevrolet pick up truck.
The driver of the Caprice, Myron Thomas, 31, of Shreveport, suffered minor injuries during the crash.
Thomas' passengers, Melvina Ealy, 29, and her one-year-old child were both transported to an area hospital. The infant, who was not in a child safety seat, was said to be suffering life threatening injuries. Melvina suffered a broken leg during the crash.
According to Hines, Thomas was driving west on Greenwood Road when the accident occurred. Witnesses told police that Thomas and the driver of a four-door burnt orange Chevrolet Impala were drag racing.
Thomas then collided with a Chevrolet pick up truck driven by Johnny Allen, 62, of Shreveport.
Hines says that Allen, who was traveling east bound on Greenwood Road, received only minor injuries as a result of the collision.
The driver of the Impala, 52-year-old Calvin Beaner Sr., of Greenwood, Louisiana was taken into custody by police. The drivers of all three vehicles were given routine chemical tests in accordance with state law, said Hines.
Charges are pending as authorities await results of the toxicology tests.
