The heads of education for the state of Louisiana visited several local schools today. The stops centered around campuses with significant growth in student achievement.
BESE board
members visited a total of four schools in Caddo Parish. They all agreed it was a good learning
experience.
The board
members stopped at Cherokee Park Elementary, North Side Elementary, Caddo
Parish Middle Magnet and Southwood High School.
At Cherokee Park the board learned how the school went from a campus score of 44 to 81. The board's president says because of the student makeup----teachers deal with unique challenges.
Cherokee park also earned the distinction of top gains status for 2011-12. Board members will visit four more schools in Bossier Parish Wednesday. The first stop tomorrow morning will be Curtis Elementary.
