Vehicle burglaries are happening more often but there are things you can do to keep thieves from breaking into your car.
Criminals often drive though parking lots or residential neighborhoods, looking for vehicles with open windows or unlocked doors. They are mainly looking for cell phones, CD's, electronics, purses or wallets.
Police want you to make sure your windows are closed, your doors are locked and if you must leave valuables in your car, conceal those items from view before arriving at your destination.
Texarkana Police say vehicle break-ins commonly lead to other crimes such as fraud and identity theft, so limit the amount of personal information you keep inside your vehicle. They also advise that you record serial numbers of your valuables and keep them in a safe place.
If you see any suspicious persons or activity, authorities want you to call them immediately. You are urged to contact the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department at 903-798-3154 or Texarkana area CrimeStoppers at 903-793-7867.
