A shoplifter is behind bars this morning after he hit a Bossier Sheriff's deputy multiple times in the face.

The incident happened shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Brookshire's on Hwy 80 in Haughton.

Guy Foraker, 49, left the store without paying for two gallons of water and was confronted in the parking lot by the deputy who was working off-duty security.

When the deputy tried to restrain Foraker, he pulled away and punched the deputy in the face several times.

After a brief struggle, the deputy had to use pepper spray to contain Foraker.

The deputy was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

A couple of Brookshire's employees were also injured during the incident when Foraker tried to bite them.

Foraker was booked into the Bossier Maximum Security Facility.  He has been charged with battery of a peace officer, resisting by force of violence, theft of goods, two counts of simple battery and one count of simple assault.
