It started Tuesday afternoon; winds picking up speed and dark clouds rolling in across the region with tornadic activity posing a threat.
With power outages a reality during this type of weather, it's important for you to be aware of not only your surroundings but others who might need your help.
Have batteries and flashlights ready, do not use matches or lighters.
"Don't use candles. Don't use an open flame. We get way too many calls for accidents and those kinds of things during this type of weather," Caddo-Bossier Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Director Sandy Davis said.
SWEPCO is ready to tackle power outages with help already en route from Alabama, Southern LA, Missouri, and Oklahoma.
"We've called in about 100 extra full time employees. That's about 25 crews coming here to Shreveport," SWEPCO rep. Scott McCloud said.
