The Mansfield Civil War Battlefield will receive some financial help to preserve its history.
U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu announced Tuesday that a $41,000 grant will help maintain the state park.
The National Park Service's American Battlefield Protection Program provided the grant, which helps states and local communities acquire and preserve threatened Civil War battlefield land.
Sen. Landrieu said, "I am proud of today's funding which will help ensure that this site and the history surrounding it is maintained and not lost to future generations."
The funds were made available under the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2012, which appropriated $8.9 million for the Civil War battlefield land acquisition grants program.
Sen. Landrieu voted in favor of this funding to make the grant possible.
