Armed law
enforcement officers can now be found inside Bossier Parish elementary schools. Tuesday marks the start of the school system's
Elementary Proactive Patrol.
Four School Resource Officers will begin rotating between all
19 elementary school campuses. This was
a unanimous decision made by the school board.
All of the SROs are Bossier Parish Sheriff's Deputies. The cost to have additional officers on campuses for the rest of the school year is $65,000. One long term option is to have an officer assigned to every elementary school. That will cost $3 million.
The board could vote as early as next month on the feasibility of the plan along with funding. The school board is hoping to secure federal or state funding for elementary school security. If that doesn't happen the school system will have to seek local funding, which could come at a price for tax payers.
