By: Nikki Henderson
Updated: January 21, 2013

Monday President Barack Obama took the oath of office in front of hundreds of thousands of people on the National Mall.

President Obama was officially sworn in Sunday in a small ceremony at the White House.

Sunday's official swearing-in was held because the constitutionally mandated inauguration date of Jan. 20 fell on a Sunday.

Following today's inaugural address there will be a luncheon with the president and members of Congress and the traditional inaugural parade and balls.
