4H club members at Newton Smith 6th Grade Center planted 20 trees in honor of the 20 children who died in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.

Students say it's a perfect way to both celebrate Louisiana's Arbor Day and honor a month's passing since the shooting.

"God doesn't make mistakes and I know those kids are in a better place. That guy could have come to our neighborhood. I could have been one of those kids," 6th grader Zachary Miller said.

The trees were donated by Shreveport Green and will stand proud as a living memorial for the community to be proud of.
