The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is taking steps to make sure you are safe while driving in North Louisiana.
Monday DOTD officials announced that they are prepared to deal with winter weather in Shreveport-Bossier.
With the possibility of snow and sleet heading this way, DOTD crews are on standby to apply sand and salt over any affected bridges and roadways, to remove fallen trees from the roadway, and to close any roads as needed.
Message boards along I-20, I-220 and I-49 are being utilized to keep you advised of changing weather and road conditions.
DOTD urges you to stay off the roads but if you have to travel they advise that you use extra caution on the roadways.
DOTD officials also want to remind you to watch out for black ice, a thin, transparent layer of ice accumulation that can be hard to see on bridges and overpasses.
You can dial 511 to get the latest updates on road conditions from the Traveler Information System.
Information about road closures is also available at the DOTD Customer Service Center, that number is 1-877-452-3683.
