A man is shot and killed in drive-by shooting in the Morningside neighborhood. A witness said the man was shot while waiting for the bus in the rain.
According to Shreveport Police, the shooting happened around 10:26 p.m. Saturday in the 5000 block of Hearne Avenue, at the intersection of Murray Street. Upon arriving on scene, police found a black male, unresponsive, with at least one gunshot wound.
He was transported to LSU Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Natasha Smith, who lives in a house adjacent to the bus stop, was sitting on her front porch at the time with her 5-year-old son. She said the man put his pizzas on her porch to keep them out of the rain. About 10 minutes later, a black Caprice with tinted windows pulled up, and someone pointed a gun out the passenger window, and shot at the man.
"They didn't say nothing. They just started shooting," said Smith.
She said the Caprice then came back around and someone shot at him again. She said the man then stumbled across Hearne avenue, holding his stomach. She said that's when he fell and collapsed. Smith said she heard nine gunshots.
Smith said the man looked to be in his early 20s, and had a New Orleans accent. Another witness said she heard several gunshots, looked out her window and saw the man fall to the ground on the sidewalk. She said he tried to get back up and then fell again. That's when she called 911.
Police are on scene investigating and have blocked off Hearne Avenue between Vivian Street and Murray St. No word on whether they have made any arrests in relation to the shooting.
