The Krewe of Sobek celebrates its tenth anniversary.

To mark the milestone, they hosted a reception Thursday, January 10 at the Multicultural Center in Downtown Shreveport, where an exhibit of the krewe's costumes and memorabilia will be on display through February.

During the past decade, the krewe has grown from nine members to 75 and has continued to evolve.

"The most important thing we've done, I think, is we increased our community service and so we do a lot here in Shreveport.  We work with schools.  We visit nursing homes," said Shirley Pierson, Parade Chair.

The full anniversary celebration takes place next weekend with a gala on Friday, January 18 at Shreveport Convention Center.  The theme is "All Things Grande."  The parade rolls through the Queensborough neighborhood at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2013.
