Local farmers prepare for new year

By: Marquel Sennet
Updated: December 31, 2012

Local farmers hope 2013 will reap a plentiful harvest.  If the rain continues into 2013 farmers believe they'll be in good shape.

Farmers are still feeling the effects of 2011's drought.  Businesses were forced to get hay from out of state and that drove up prices.

The increased costs of corn increased feed prices.  All of those factors forced some smaller farms to end operations.

Greenwood Feed and Hardware has been able to weather the storm.  The Roan family has seen an increase in business from people starting their own personal gardens.  They believe this is caused by the rise in produce prices at the grocery store.
