Area residents make heartfelt gesture to ease pain of Newtown community

A Springhill hairstylist and two of her friends are remembering the Connecticut school shooting victims in a special way.

Shortly after the tragedy, Brenda Nipper decided she wanted to send Christian flags to show support for Newtown residents.

A plan was put into action after Nipper shared her thoughts with her customer, Ann Sanders and Bert Harris, who had started Christian Flag Flying in North Webster Parish.

The group of women purchased 30 flags to send to Newtown.  A personalized card telling of the many prayers that were being said in Christian love were included in each of the flag packages to be presented to the families.

Twenty-six flags are in memory of each victim, two flags are in honor of the survivors who are still in the hospital and the other two flags will fly outside of the Newtown Police and Fire Departments.
