Local restaurant helps raise money for sick police officer

Joe's Crab Shack is taking steps to help a Bossier police officer recover from an illness.

Saturday the restaurant on the Louisiana Boardwalk will set aside 10 percent of its sales to benefit Detective Brandon Huckaby.

Huckaby has histoplasmosis, an infection of the lungs caused by inhaling the spores of a particular fungus that ended up spreading to his blood and liver.

Huckaby has spent three weeks in the hospital as a result and is continuing his post hospitalization recovery at home.

The money raised will help cover the cost of Huckaby's out of pocket medical expenses.

Anyone who visits Joe's Crab Shack between 11 a.m. and midnight has to present a flyer when they place their order so that 10 percent of the bill will be counted as a donation.

You can pick up the flyers in the lobby of the Bossier City Police Department on 620 Benton Road.
