Residents in the town of Athens, Louisiana are fighting to take their school back!  The Claiborne Parish School Board closed the high school earlier this year.  Now community members say they're willing to buy it.

Residents believe it costs anywhere from $30,000 to upwards of $100,000.  Regardless residents say the building needs to remain in the hands of the community.

The school system's superintendent, Dr. Janice Williams says a dollar figure hasn't been put on the table.    She says the school has to be appraised.  After that the school board will be ready to sell to the highest bidder.

A meeting will be held January 4th at 6:30PM at St. Rest Baptist Church.  Dr. Williams says the group has until March to come up with a plan for the school.  She doesn't want the building to remain vacant too much longer
