School is back in session at Doyline High School. Students were given a week off while the town of Doyline was under a voluntary evacuation order Dec. 1-Dec. 7.

Principal Dr. Grady Smith said the teachers are having to crunch in a lot of material, so students are prepared for mid-term exams next week.

While parents are happy to see their kids back in class, many of the high school students said they could've had a few more weeks off.

"I wish we could've stayed out a little bit longer," said Shanelle Allen, a senior at Doyline High School.

Smith said the Webster Parish School System is appealing to the state, requesting to not have to make the days up.  If that doesn't work, he said he will work with the superintendent in January to figure out a plan for making up the lost time. He said it will be a combination of adding minutes to school days and adding on days at the end of the school year.
