Some children may wake up Christmas morning without any toys if they do not receive your help. Local non-profits hope you will help prevent that.

Through its Angel Tree campaign, the Salvation Army is facilitating the distribution of gifts to 6,000 children living in the Shreveport/Bossier City area. The angels are located on Christmas trees, housed in area Wal-Marts, Starbucks, and malls.

"We need people's help. Christmas is coming fast. We need eveything in by the 10th of December because we have distribution on the 18th and 19th so to organize for 6,000 kids Christmas, we need some help."

So far, Salvation Army officials tell NBC 6 they have received 75 gifts. If you would like to help, you just have to grab one of the angels off the trees, purchase the gifts, and then drop them off at the Salvation Army Office on Stoner Avenue.

Donations to the Red Kettle campaign are also down.

"It's been 15 days since we started. We're barely creeping along," said Director of Development K.C. Kilpatrick Stone.  "We aren't breaking even. We really need people to give to the campaign. We have a lot going on at Christmas and throughout the year so that's the time that people need to step up and help us help others."

Kilpatrick Stone said they are trying to raise more than $100,000, which would cover 1-2 months of expenses. The Salvation Army's annual budget is around $3.5 million.
