Local bondsman arrested for allegedly beating a suspect

A Shreveport bondsman was arrested after a man in his custody was brought to jail with head injuries.

Wednesday Darren Cowthorn turned himself into Caddo Parish authorities.

Cowthorn picked up Gregory Johnson on Nov. 2 after he failed to make a $400 payment.  Cowthorn later handcuffed Johnson and put him in the back of his truck after they got into argument.
 

Johnson told investigators another man in the car Valandor Cawthorn then began repeatedly hitting him in the face and head.  Johnson said Cowthorn did nothing to stop it.

Cawthorn who also turned himself in on Wednesday was booked into Caddo Correctional Center for second-degree battery.

Cowthorn has been charged with being an accessory to second-degree battery.
