A unique Christmas event, the Christmas Nativity Celebration, will take place for the first time from 5-9 p.m. Dec. 7 -8, at 200 Carroll Street, Shreveport, LA 71105.
The event will include an indoor display of nativities from around the world as well as Christmas musical performances by school, church, and community groups. It is a free event and open to the public.
The event is being held by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. All are invited to come view the nativities surrounded by beautiful Christmas decorations while enjoying musical performances.
Community members throughout the Shreveport/Bossier area are loaning their nativity sets, which depict the birth of Jesus Christ in a variety of forms and through various mediums, for this special event.
As part of the display there will be more than 100 nativity sets including a glass nativity set from Merano, Italy, an olive wood set from Jerusalem, hand-carved wood sets from Africa and the Philippines as well as nativities from Peru, Canada and many other countries. Artwork depicting various images of the birth and life of Christ also will be on display.
In addition to beautiful nativities and elegant Christmas decorations, the event will also feature live musical performances. These Christmas musical numbers will be performed by choirs, soloists and ensembles from a variety of school, church, and community groups from throughout the area.
Ross Smith, a congregation leader for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Shreveport said, "We hope our friends in the community and their families will come enjoy this special event. It is an opportunity for us to join together in celebrating the spirit of this Christmas season."
