Thanksgiving meals given to the community

The
Salvation Army depended on volunteers to provide meals for the less fortunate on Thanksgiving Day.
"We feed over 300
people every single day, but on this day in particular, we need extra help,"
says K.C. Kilpatrick Stone, Public Information Officer for Salvation Army.
"Because
we want to reach back in the community for people who may or may not be
receiving a traditional thanksgiving meal."
Several volunteers
worked for days, making sure those less fortunate had a tasty Thanksgiving
meal.
"The kitchen staff
has been working for about a week preparing that, but to get this type of
operation done, we could only have done that through volunteers," says
Stone.
"I enjoyed it very
much this is my second year here and uh, i came back for seconds," says
Randall Donnelly.
Two volunteers we spoke
to say they're the ones that benefit from giving their time.
"Feeding the
homeless and those who are without, I had a great time helping out," says volunteer
David Butler.
"I've just been
blessed and I wanted to give the opportunity back to the community and be able
to help someone out," says Ronderick Kirkendoll, volunteer.
Over at Shared Harvest
Community Kitchen in Bossier City, volunteers felt the same.
"We've just had a
lot of fun today just seeing their smiles especially," says volunteer Krystal
French.
"We've been with the desserts so we've had the fun job of watching them
all try to pick out which one they wanted and it's just really fun. I think we
got more out of it helping, than you know, who we're actually helping."
The kitchen's director
says about 50 people showed up to help out, and putting on the Thanksgiving
feast means a lot to all of them.
"It's so important
to use, because we feed people on a nightly basis," says Holly Schreiber. "We
have a lot of families that come in that we get to know throughout the whole
year and so really they become out family, so it makes sense to be here on
thanksgiving to be here with our extended family."
