Stores across the ArkLaTex work hard to keep you safe on Black Friday

"We have security everywhere, throughout the property. Some of the security you won't be able to see. They'll be walking, they'll be on bikes, golf carts."

The Louisiana Boardwalk isn't the only shopping center that will be on high alert. The Super Target in Shreveport will also have Caddo Parish Sheriff Deputies on site, on Thanksgiving and Black Friday, in order to keep things orderly.

"The main thing that guests can do is just make sure that when they come in, to keep calm," said Bryan Johnson, team lead of Target's Loss Prevention department.  "You don't need to run, you don't need to push or shove or push anybody over. There's plenty of products and for larger ticket items, they will be handing out tickets to people out front so there's really no rush to get in. "

Authorities say there are several things you can do to avoid being a victim of a crime during this holiday season. They suggest locking your doors, rolling up the windows in your car, and not  leaving valuables like your purse, shopping bags, or credit cards visible in your vehicle while shopping.

"Just be aware of your surroundings," said Sgt. Bart Cavanaugh, of the Bossier City Police Department.

"If you're a store clerk or a shopper, if you see something that makes you uncomfortable, don't get out of your car.  If it's in the parking lot, stay inside the store. If it makes you really uncomfortable, call the police. That's what we're here for."
