The Thanksgiving holiday can be one of the deadliest times to be on the road.
According to the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission this holiday period in 2011 had the second highest number of fatal crashes, the highest being Mardis Gras.
To ensure more people survive if they happen to be involved in an accident, state police and local law enforcement are stepping up their patrols watching for seat belt violators.
The extra enforcement goes through November 25th.
