More than
11,500 people came out to the 12th Annual National Black Rodeo
Finals Saturday.
It's a
family-friendly, party where cowboys and cowgirls get to show off their horses
and horsemanship.
Larry Hutchins,
a professional cowboy out of Mississippi, performs every weekend in rodeos but said this one is special.
"It's got a
a lot of entertainment," said Hutchins. "I
call it a rodeo with a free concert."
Before the
rodeo begins, trail-riders parade their horses through the streets and as the
sun goes down, tail-gators come out to party all night long.
"We're
having a whole lot of fun," said Zina Winbush, of the Hang Around Riding Club
out of Mansfield, LA.
"It's
like a once a year gathering. The National Black Rodeo is where all of us come
together," said Kalan Washington, of the Buffalo Soldiers Riding Club.
The cowboys and girls
competed in seven events. The performers included Omar Cunningham, J Dash, and
the Grambling State University Marching Band.
