It was a full house Friday morning at the Green Oaks Performing Arts Academy as its ROTC program celebrated Veteran's Day.

The ceremony featured the placement of a wreath honoring veterans and keynote speaker SFC Chad Mingo.  The army recruiter served two tours in Iraq. Mingo talked to students about the consequences of getting tattoos and encouraged them to avoid bad role models, such as the drug dealers they see on the streets.

"I was trying to let the kids know that it's something positive out of everything," said Mingo.

"If you work hard, you try to constantly better yourself, then you will become better. You don't have to settle for just being average. You can better yourself by joining the military, college or whatever you choose to do."

The litany of life advice continued when the school's principal, Marvin Alexander, told the kids how a low credit score would negatively affect their lives.

Before the end of the ceremony, the students also thanked the near dozen veterans in attendance.
