A local man is now in police custody after burglarizing a Shreveport home Wednesday afternoon.

Desmond Moore, 29, of the 1500 block of Alma Street in Shreveport was arrested by Shreveport police after they observed him fleeing from a residence that had just been burglarized.

Just after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 24), officers were dispatched to a home in the 4000 block of Gilbert Drive, where a 13-year-old juvenile had phoned his parents notifying them that a strange man was outside knocking on the front door.

Having no knowledge of who the stranger was, the juvenile was instructed by his parents to remain inside while authorities were contacted.  Shortly after his knocks went unanswered, the then-unknown prowler made his way to the rear of the residence, where he allegedly kicked in a back door.

It was at this moment, officers responding to the call arrived on scene.  The intruder observed officers and made an attempt to flee on foot.

Unfortunately, he neglected to pick up his car, which was parked in the residence's driveway.

The suspect was identified as Moore of the 1500 block of Alma Street in Shreveport.

Moore was subsequently transported to police headquarters where he was interviewed by burglary investigators. Moore allegedly advised that he had fallen on difficult times and needed money to attend the local State Fair when he hatched the idea to burglarize the home.

Following interviews with investigators, Moore was subsequently booked into the Shreveport City Jail on charges of burglary of an inhabited dwelling, possession of burglary tools, and resisting and officer.
