A police car chase through north Shreveport and ending outside the city limits in Caddo Parish ended with the deaths of a man and a woman this morning.
Just after 8 this morning, SPD dispatchers began receiving calls regarding a woman in distress who was in the passenger seat of a car driven by a man.
SPD officers caught up with the moving vehicle at Utt Road off Airport Drive, but the driver of the car did not stop. A car chase ensued on north-bound 3134, off Grimmet Drive and onto George Road.
The officers heard shots, but it is unclear at this time whether those shots were fired during the chase or after the suspect's car came to a halt.
After the car stopped, the driver got out of the car and began firing shots at police officers, who returned fire, fatally injuring the man.
The Caddo Parish coroner is on the scene, along with crime scene investigation. The Caddo Parish Sheriff's office and the Shreveport Police Department are working together at the scene.
NBC 6 News has a crew on the scene and will bring details as they become available. The names of the deceased have not been released pending notification of the family. Reported by Joel Rodgers, 10-24-12
