RUSTON, La. (Oct. 21, 2012) - After a one-week hiatus and a record-setting performance, Louisiana Tech has returned to the national rankings as the Bulldogs are billed at 24th in the Associated Press poll announced Sunday.
Louisiana Tech (6-1, 1-0 Western Athletic) makes just its third appearance in the Associated Press poll in the program's history. The Bulldogs were ranked No. 23 by the AP two weeks ago leading into the team's game against then 22nd-ranked Texas A&M, the team's highest ranking ever. Tech was first ranked in the AP poll in 1999 (No. 25).
In the USA Today/Coaches Poll, Louisiana Tech is first among the teams also receiving votes (listed 26th overall), receiving 100 votes. Tech is just four votes shy of No. 25 Wisconsin's 104 votes in that poll.
Tech climbed back into the rankings after an offensive onslaught dominated Idaho, 70-28, behind a school record 839 total offensive yards. That marks the most offensive yards any team has recorded in a single game this season. Several other school records were set in the win including most number of first downs in a game (39), most number of rushing touchdowns in a game (eight) and Kenneth Dixon set the school record for the most number of rushing touchdowns in a game by an individual (six).
The 70 points scored by the Bulldogs is the most in a game since scoring 77 against Louisiana-Lafayette in 1998 while Tech did not score in the fourth quarter against the Vandals. The 56 points scored by Tech in the first half ties a WAC record.
Tech quarterback Colby Cameron broke an NCAA record Saturday with 275 consecutive passes thrown without an interception. He is currently one of two quarterbacks in the country - along with Alabama's A.J. McCarron - to have not thrown an interception this season.
No. 24 Louisiana Tech will play at New Mexico State (1-6, 0-3 WAC) on Saturday, Oct. 27 with a 7 p.m. CT/6 p.m. MT kickoff set in Las Cruces, N.M.
