breaking news
Some houses in Allendale doesnt look like much but look a little closer its a burglars dream. Walls have been ripped up and pipes have been pulled out. Vacant residences in the neighborhood arent the only houses that are being hit hard. Jerry Fields is in construction and says he has seen his share of items disappear.
"Someone broke in and took the kitchen sink, to take the kitchen sink theyre real desperate and keep tearing the doors up and like appliances, ceiling fans, lights and stuff,” explained Jerry Fields, Jackson Construction.
Police are working on several cases of vandalism and theft in the area, but so far no arrests.
"People are reporting hot water heaters, sinks, mostly the copper from the residences so they can take it to the scrap yards to sell,” said Officer Richard Rurpen, Shreveport Police Department.
The burglars are making money while Fields is losing money. The hot spots are Ford, Alston, Saint Luke, and Templeman. All streets have been hit multiple times and Fields says enough is enough.
"Were trying to better our community but we cant improve our community if people come in and steal everything and vandalize and tear things up.”
Officers think the items are being lifted at all hours of the day, but they arent exactly sure who they are looking for.
"Its possibly some of the same people, but you do have a lot of people that walk the streets here and thats the only way of transportation is by feet, they walk the area, they know the area.”
Anyone who has any information about the burglaries is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 673-7373.
