Three local organizations are uniting to use the power of film to open up the dialogue on race in Shreveport.
LSU Health Shreveport, Southern University at Shreveport and Centenary College held the first of three film showings and discussions on race Thursday night at the SUSLA Metro Campus. The first hour of the documentary 'Race - The Power Of An Illusion' was shown to those attendance to start the conversation.
Kenneth Hunter, the Director of Diversity Affairs at LSU Health Shreveport says he came up with the idea after he and colleagues couldn't agree on how to define race. Hunter hopes the series of talks will eliminate the tendency to shy away from discussions on race. 'I believe once people hear about this discussion they will realize that race is not such a threatening thing once we get it out there on the table.'
The second meeting will take place Thursday, October 18th at Robinson Film Center in Shreveport where the second hour of the film will be shown. Admission is free.
