A Caddo
Parish Elementary School is dealing with a unique challenge. Oak Park Elementary has growing enrollment
numbers and with that comes the need to expand.
The
school's principal is hoping to get additional space to accommodate more
students. Superintendent Dr. Gerald Dawkins
presented a plan to the school board that addresses the school's growth needs.
The
elementary school will also expand to include the sixth, seventh and eighth
grades. Enrollment has gone from 300
students to 450 in a matter of five years.
A lot of
the growth can also be attributed to the school going from an Academically Unacceptable
rating to now being a nationally recognized campus.
Principal
Sabrina Anderson is hoping a multipurpose room will be included in future plans
for the school. She says it's necessary
for extracurricular programs for the new middle school students. Anderson says the Caddo Parish School Board
is expected to vote on a future plan for the school next month.
