Updated: September 26, 2012

The Shreve Memorial Library system has received a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts, inviting the library to join the annual "The Big Read" national event.

The Big Read is an initiative designed to put reading back into American life. Every year different local library systems are selected, and are given list of books to choose from. The library then hosts community discussions surrounding the book of their choice.

Shreve Memorial has chosen Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried for this year's Big Read. Free books will be given out at weeklky discussion events, where the community is invited to talk about the book and its themes.

The Big Read kicks off Saturday, October sixth, at the Shreve Memorial Library Broadmoor location. Events will be held weekly through November third.
