Members of the 527th Engineering Battalion out of Ruston spent four days at the Jewella shelter in Shreveport. While their main mission was keeping evacuees safe, they also made strong bonds with the people they met. Lt. Kenneth Miller says while its their job to deploy on relief missions like this one, they also want to make sure evacuees are as comfortable as possible in this bad situation. Brenda Gresham and Nicholas Morris say troops were a big help while they stayed here in Shreveport. "He kept my head above water, when it felt like it was going under," Morris says about one soldier he met.
