A local Texarkana, Texas family is displaced following an early morning house fire.

Firefighters arrived to flames coming out of the roof of a home along the 2000 block of Hazel Street shortly after 4:00 a.m. Monday.

Crews were able to control the fire, but the home is likely a loss.

"I started crying. I couldn't believe it. It's the first home we ever bought and we lose it like this. That kind of hurt me," said homeowner Faith Avery, who lives at the home with her husband and four children.

Avery says she and her family were staying at a relative's house when she got the call something was wrong at her home. She returned to see flames.

"When we arrived we had flames coming out of the roof," said Texarkana Texas Fire Department Battalion Chief Michael Gilley.

Little, if anything, can be salvaged.

Avery says everything in her house was precious because her family worked hard for the things they had.

"Just pray on it and keep on going," Avery said.

Avery says her family had only been living in the house for five months before it burned.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
