Overpass on I-30 struck twice in less than a year

An Interstate 30 overpass in northeast Texas is closed after getting hit by an oversized tanker.

A TxDOT spokesperson says a tanker traveling on a trailer Tuesday was too tall to pass under the CR 2003 (Red Bayou Road) overpass in Bowie County and caused damage to the bridge.

This is the second time an oversized load hit the overpass this year, leading to a closure, according to TxDOT Atlanta District Public Information Officer Marcus Sandifer.

The overpass had only been repaired for about three months before it was damaged once again.

While the Red Bayou Road overpass is lower than some others in the area, Sandifer says it's the responsibility of drivers to know the height of their large loads.

No word on how long repairs will take.

In the mean time, traffic is being detoured onto Highway 82 and State Highway 8.
