Local man arrested for torching his parents' home

A local man was arrested this morning for allegedly setting fire to his parents home.

Victor Adkins Jr., 21, was taken into custody by Shreveport Fire Department investigators at 11:20 a.m. and charged with simple arson in the fire at his parents' home in the 1900 block of Poland Ave.

  Fire Investigators believe the suspect set the fire to conceal the crime of theft. 

  At 5:47 a.m. this morning, Shreveport firefighters were dispatched to the house fire in the 1900 block of Poland Avenue.  Engine 4 arrived on scene at 5:51 a.m. and heavy smoke and flames coming from the front of the residence.  It took 6 units and 18 firefighters 21 minutes to bring the fire under control.  There were no reported injuries. 

Louisiana Revised Statute 14:52 defines Simple Arson as intentional damaging by any explosive substance or the setting fire to any property of another, without the consent of the owner. 

    Whoever commits the crime of simple arson, where the damage done amounts to $500 five shall be fined not more than $15,000 and be imprisoned at hard labor for not less than two years nor more than 15 years.
