Akin snubs Romney, Republican Party & stays in U.S. Senate race

A defiant Republican Rep. Todd Akin of Missouri said today that he will stay in the Senate race to unseat Democrat Claire McCaskill despite mounting calls from across the political spectrum for him to withdraw over incendiary comments on rape and pregnancy.

Even presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney called for Akin to get out of the race just a couple of hours before the 5 p.m. CST deadline.
