NATCHITOCHES- New Northwestern State head baseball coach Lane Burroughs added junior college transfer Joseph Parrack, a left-handed pitcher from Overland Park, Kan., to the 2013 squad.

Parrack, a 6-5, 205-pound southpaw, threw two seasons at Fort Scott Community College in Kansas and finished with a 7-2 record, 2.24 earned run average, 67 innings pitched, and 64 strikeouts.

"Joey is a tall, rangy lefty that throws a fastball anywhere from 86-88 and can get to the 90's when needed," said Burroughs.

"He has an excellent change-up and has a good feel for his curveball," said the new skipper. "The ceiling is very high for Joey and his best days are yet to come."

Parrack attended high school at Shawnee Mission West and lettered three years in baseball and four in bowling.

He was voted a second team all-conference pitcher twice including his senior season when he finished with a 4-1 record and a 0.98 ERA.

He also played for Team Under Armor and the 17 and under USA team.

"Joey is a very mature young man and he really handles his business in a professional manner," said Burroughs.  "He is very seasoned after pitching two years in a very completive Kansas JUCO league.

"We could not be more excited about getting a lefty of his caliber during the summer," said Burroughs.

During his time on the bowling team, Shawnee Mission West won three regional and Sunflower championships and finished state runner-up. He was named to the All-Kansas team his junior year.
