Louisiana moves up two spots on national ranking of children's health

By: Morgan Thomas
Updated: August 7, 2012

Officials with Louisiana's Department of Children and Family services report the state's children are doing better than ever before.

According to the latest rankings from the Annie E. Casey Foundation' KIDS COUNT Data Book, Louisiana moved up two spots on the scale.  The state is now ranked 47th in the nation after being number 49 for the past ten editions of the report.  The rankings measure four categories of children's well-being: health, education, family and community/economic status.  Louisiana improved on 11 of the report's 16 indicators.

The DCFS Secretary calls the results encouraging, but hopes the state continues in the right direction.
