The sign up numbers for the state's controversial voucher program wasn't as high as some expected.  Less than 8,000 applications were submitted across the state.

Here locally St. Joseph school received 20 applications, but only eight students were eligible.  Evangel Christian Academy saw the highest numbers with more than 300 students signing up for the voucher plan.  A total of 10 applications were submitted at Dreamkeepers Academy.

Students attending C, D or F rated schools were eligible to apply       The Louisiana Department of Education is still waiting to get application numbers from last Friday, so numbers could increase in the coming weeks.

Students will be selected at random for the program.  The LDOE will use a lottery system to pick the students.  Parents will be notified by July 31st.
