Historic Auditorium Counting on Community Support

Last month Kevin Costner held a benefit concert at Shreveport`s Municipal Auditorium. Proceeds from the show raised more than 24,000 dollars. Despite the hefty donation, the "Friends of the Municipal" say the historical landmark still needs help from the community. "Shreveport is blessed with a rich cultural heritage and the Municipal auditorium is unparalleled. The quality and quantity of stars that performed here is only rivaled by the Grand Olde Opry... I think it`s really important for locals to support it." said Johnny Wessler, Executive Director of the Friends of the Municipal Auditorium. Sunday the group held the third in a series of summer concerts, benefitting the aging facility. This week`s concert featured impersonators of some country music legends who got their start on the famous stage. "We`re standing in the hall ways of legends like Marty Robbins and Hank Jr. and Hank Sr. They all played here. So did Johnny Cash and we`re doing tributes to Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn and George Straight." said Wessler. The concert series continues next month. A gospel show has been added to the lineup.
