Contest to build Texarkana dog park

Updated: June 22, 2012

Animal groups across Texarkana are working to bring a dog park to their city, but organizers say they need your help.

Rescue organizations and volunteers are asking for votes in what's called the "Bark for Your Park" contest.

The winner will get $100,00 to build a dog park from company PetSafe.

Organizers say if won, the park would go up at Jefferson Park through land donated by the City of Texarkana, Arkansas.

"Texarkana needs a dog park if we're going to be able to compete with any other type of city when it comes to tourism and having a safe place for our children and our animals," said volunteer DeAnna O'Malley.

Texarkana, Arkansas was in the lead as of Thursday, with more than 22,000 votes cast.

Voting continues through July: http://www.petsafe.net/barkforyourpark/
