The small town of Blairsville, GA is proud of its location at the bottom foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and of its reputation as a tourist and retirement attraction.

Many are not proud to learn that the Ku Klux Klan wants a sign of its own put up on a highway at the county line.

Like one in Missouri, the Klan wants a sign showing that it will take care of keeping a one mile stretch of highway clean and beautiful.

Some local Klan members have filed an Adopt-A-Highway application with Georgia's Department of Transportation.

Even though Klan members are not talking, there are plenty of people in Blairsville who are surprised to hear of the Klan's application.

"The message is still that the KKK is still alive and active up here, which I would hope it's not. I don't know if it is for sure or not, but I don't like the message that is sends," said Blairsville resident, Christina Joyce.

The Klan's Adopt-A-Highway application puts the state in a bit of a pickle.

If the state turns it down, the Klan is threatening to sue like they did with a similar sign in Missouri, where the courts upheld their right to participate in that states Adopt-A-Highway.
