New York City has had its share of grand entrances, but the one by shuttle Enterprise might go down as one of the more memorable.

With the Statue of Liberty providing the backdrop from one angle and the Manhattan skyline from the other, Enterprise arrived by barge by way of the Hudson and cheered on by thousands who lined the river.

The shuttle, which never traveled into space, became the first to travel by water as it made its way to become part of the floating museum onboard the USS Intrepid.

It was another historic moment for the crane that lifted Enterprise onto Intrepid, too.

It's the same crane used to pluck US Airways Flight 1549 from the Hudson three years ago.

Since arriving in New York in April, riding piggy-back on a NASA jet, Enterprise has been kept at JFK International Airport.

Last weekend, it was lifted onto the barge and pulled by a tugboat, did a floating tour of Queens, Brooklyn and Coney Island.

Officials at the Intrepid museum easily expect the space shuttle to be a major attraction for years to come.
